Hazardous Materials Operations

Scope/Overview:

First responders at the operations level are those who respond to releases, or potential releases, as part of the initial response to protect people, property, and the environment. This 16-hour program is for those employees who may witness or discover a hazardous materials incident and have the responsibility to initiate the employer's emergency response plan, evacuate the area, and/or take some type of defensive action in minimizing the emergency. Building upon awareness level training, OSU's 16-hour program emphasizes proper selection and use of protective equipment, basic control, containment and confinement operations, decontamination procedures, standard operating and termination procedures. The course will meet or exceed the operations level requirements of OSHA 1910.120.
